I’m Richard McBrearty, a football historian, museum professional and the creator of this site!

I have been employed with the Scottish Football Museum since 1999, initially as a researcher, then in outreach and education roles before taking on the post of curator. Presently, I manage a national reminiscence programme called Football Memories Scotland which is a partnership between the museum and Alzheimer Scotland.

The subject of Scotland’s football origins holds a strong personal research interest which dates back to my earliest days at the museum. For over 20 years I have been gathering information relating to football in Scotland from the earliest times up to 1873 and recording it in a database.

To date I have compiled over 4,500 entries and plan to complete the research project by 2023.
