I’m Richard McBrearty, a football historian, PhD student and the creator of this site!
I have been employed with the Scottish Football Museum since 1999, initially as a researcher, then in outreach and education roles before taking on the post of curator. Recently I enrolled at Stirling University undertaking doctoral research into the emergence of organised football in Scotland in the nineteenth century.
The subject of Scotland’s football origins holds a strong personal research interest which dates back to my earliest days at the museum. For over 20 years I have been gathering information relating to football in Scotland from the earliest times up to 1873 and recording it in a database.
To date I have compiled almost 5,000 entries and hope to complete this project by 2023.
