This list of short biographies focuses on rugby football club members who have been connected to at least one relevant club from the Scottish Borders region between 1875 and 1881. The central aim of this study has to link each club member to the 1881 Census in order to establish the general location of each household, the employment status of each club member and their place of birth. For each individual, a notes field is included where any additional information uncovered during the investigation has been recorded. The geographical scope of the study broadly aligns with the geographical coverage of the current Scottish Borders council region, taking in the counties of Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Peebleshire and Selkirkshire. However, it also includes the eastern edge of Dumfriesshire where the Canonbie and Langholm clubs can be found. It should also be noted that while a total of 16 clubs, existing between 1875 and 1881, are represented within the list of biographies, these do not represent all of the rugby clubs which existed across the region during this period.
